Every American citizen has voting rights, but whether or not they can be exercised is another story. Voting is a right and a responsibility, yet in recent years, voting rights have been under attack by misguided state legislatures across our country. Many states have passed laws that require voters to show identification before they are allowed to cast their ballot. This has made it more difficult for Americans of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds to participate in our democracy.
At NEA Votes, we believe that every person who wants to exercise their right and responsibility to vote should be able to do so. That's why we are working tirelessly in Arkansas and across our country to educate, register and mobilize voters.
Help NEA Votes help Arkansas voters exercise their rights and responsibility.
According to an NPR report, people face unique challenges that result in lower participation voting rates and a lack of representation. In Arkansas, for example, about 29 percent of eligible voters did not participate in 2008.
Our democracy depends on participation by eligible voters. A steady decline in citizen participation threatens our shared commitment to a participatory and inclusive republic. We cease to be self-governing people when many of us stop participating in public life.
In every generation, it has been up to each of us individually and collectively through organizations like us- Help NEA Votes!
